Comments from Komet fans: We didn’t steal the jerseys, the cabin gave them out voluntarily

Very unusual events have been happening around the hockey Kometa in recent days. The traditional team in the current year of the Tipsport Extraliga lacks games, the Brno team has already stretched its wait for a three-point win to thirteen games. Even the fans, who decided to solve it in their own way, are not satisfied with the situation.

In recent days, few people have missed the hype that prevails between the Komety Brno team and its fans. In the last match against Mountfield, everything culminated in the fact that all the jerseys of the team, whose players suffered a 7:2 debacle in Třinec on December 26, were hung up under the blue-and-white cauldron.

Since the club itself did not comment on the situation, different versions began to spread among fans not only on social networks. One of them was that after the match in Třinec, a fan broke into the Kometa cabin and stole the jerseys.

Now at least Modrobílí – the Komety Brno fan association – has commented on this whole situation on their Facebook pages. Understandably, everything culminated after a very unsuccessful match, which Kometa fans took as undignified.

Pinďa, as the leader of the boiler, went to talk to the players after the match when the players were leaving, incl. of the implementation team and asked for an explanation of the performance of the last month and a half, after which he was allowed to speak to the entire team directly in the cabin,” reads the official statement of the fan organization, which was considering the trip to Třinec despite the unsatisfactory results.

The fans emphasize that the whole event with the jerseys was definitely not a theft, as some media presented: “The jerseys were handed in voluntarily by the cabin. With the fact that in the current situation we do not think that the players deserve to wear a jersey with our club logo when they play the way they play – without commitment, fighting, determination,” reads further in the text.

It was supposed to be a gesture to make the players on the ice realize that the fans really care about the club and the results. And that playing for Kometa is not the same as playing in some “provincial club”, the fans state literally in their statement.

The said gesture also included a banner bearing the text: “Today you are playing for your jerseys”. In Třinec, the players were allegedly informed that in the next home match they have a chance to win them back with their performance.

What is the result? Kometa lost a promising home match against Hradec 2:3 in overtime, despite still leading in the last minute. However, the team’s concept of the game was more important at the moment.

It’s been a long time since the players really did what we fans expect from them,” the Blues continue in a comprehensive text. However, they add that considering the previous matches, it is still not enough.

The fans left the original set of away jerseys hanging under the boiler after the match with Hradec, then the club’s employees seized them after they left: “First of all, for the reason that the second set of away jerseys does not exist and contusions or similar problems would not help the club in the current situation. Second, we believe (perhaps foolishly) that the players have realized where and for whom they are playing,” fans added in a statement.

However, they also warn that, in the opposite case, further reactions will follow.

The management of the club itself is reacting to the series of defeats with changes in the implementation team. Already before Christmas, head coach Martin Pešout left the substitution team, and was replaced by Patrik Martinec. On Thursday, Kometa added Jaroslav Modry to the coaching staff, who only a few days ago ended up in České Budějovice.
