About 1,500 migrants from Central and South America crossed the border into the United States at El Paso in the night from Sunday to Monday. It was one of the largest crossings in recent years.
The migrants crossed the border via the Rio Grande, the border river between Mexico and the United States. On the American side, they were met by border guards.

At the end of this month, a US law from the corona era, known as Title 42, which makes it easier for the US to refuse migrants from certain countries. The US border police are already seeing larger numbers of migrants than a year ago, although there are no hard figures yet. But if the law no longer applies in January, there may be many more.

According to the border police, 2,400 migrants have tried to enter the US in the past few days El Paso Sectorthe area for which the El Paso Border Guard is responsible.
Reuters news agency spoke to migrants from Nicaragua, who say they were kidnapped and extorted by criminals on their way to the US border. They were said to have been freed by the Mexican police last week.
