Emma Raducanu relies on former Görges coach

After her sensational triumph at the US Open 2021, Emma Raducanu fell in the world tennis rankings. A German coach should give the Briton new vigour.

As several British media reports, Emma Raducanu has started working with Sebastian Sachs in Abu Dhabi. The German coach is really no stranger to the tennis tour. Most recently, Sachs trained Olympic champion Belinda Bencic from Switzerland.

Previously, Sachs also worked with former Wimbledon semi-finalist Julia Görges.

Raducanu had relied on four different coaches in the past year and a half, but there was no success after the sensational victory at the US Open 2021. In the meantime, the 20-year-old has slipped to 75th place in the world tennis rankings – it’s really not an easy time.

Tennis ace Raducanu talks about her feelings

“I’ve experienced a lot of adversity this year and I had to get up again and again,” Raducanu said in an interview with the lifestyle magazine “Sheerluxe”, giving an insight into her emotional world over the past twelve months. “So much has been said about me that just isn’t true,” the Brit complained of “fake news” circulating about her.

For 2023, Raducanu has initially set smaller goals. “My biggest goal is to stay free of injuries. I just want to stay healthy longer,” said the tennis star.

She admitted that the requirements of the tour were often not manageable for her in 2022. “Going into a top-level competition without training and stamina was a problem for my body. That’s why I’ll work hard to stay in good shape and improve.”

Raducanu took a first step a few weeks ago. With Jez Green, the Brit signed a recognized fitness coach who worked with Andy Murray from 2007 to 2014 and turned the Scot into one of the fittest players on the tour.
