Despite its good qualification for the quarter-finals of the World Cup, France remains stuck in fifth place in the virtual FIFA ranking.

The Blues held their rank on Sunday. Opposed to Poland in their round of 16 of the World Cup, Didier Deschamps’ men were not always sovereign, especially in the first period, but they nevertheless validated their qualification for the quarter-finals winning 3-1 in the wake of Olivier Giroud and Kylian Mbappé.

If the main thing is obviously due to this qualification which brings them closer to an incredible double, the French team does not benefit from this victory in the FIFA rankings. Despite its 16 points scored, France indeed remains fifth in the standings and even sees the gap widen slightly with England since the Three Lions have scored 18 points against Senegal. Likewise, countries are getting closer. With 22 points scored against the United States, the Dutch overtook Italy and have 32 outlay points on the Blues.

France nevertheless got closer to the podium since third place for Belgium is hanging by a thread, the Red Devils only having a lead of seven points over England and 11 over France. The shock between the Blues and the English will also weigh heavily for the FIFA rankings.
