MLB: the Ford C. Frick prize escapes Jacques Doucet

The Ford C. Frick Award, given annually by the Baseball Hall of Fame to a media personality for his contribution to the sport, was presented Wednesday to Pat Hughes.

Former French-language radio reporter for Montreal Expos baseball games, Jacques Doucet, was one of ten finalists.

Mr. Doucet has been nominated for this award in the past. A Montreal native, described Expos games in French for 33 years on the Expos baseball radio network until the team’s departure in 2004. He later described Blue Jays games in French from Toronto on television and was a baseball columnist for the Journal de Montréal. At the start of his career, he had also been a journalist at The Press.

Hughes, the 47th winner of the Ford C. Frick Award, has described Chicago Cubs games on radio for more than a quarter century.

Other finalists were Dave Campbell, Joe Castiglione, Gary Cohen, Tom Hamilton, Jerry Howarth, Ernie Johnson Sr., Duane Kuiper and Steve Stone.
