NFL Week 16 Highlights: Jags drop Jets on TNF; Zach Wilson on the bench

Week 16 of the NFL season kicked off with Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars on fire to a 19-3 win over the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football.

With the victory, the Jags improve their record to 7-8 this season and have now won five of their last seven games. The Jets fall to 7-8 after a lackluster performance from quarterback Zach Wilson, who was benched late for backup Chris Streveler.

Rough start

The Jaguars coughed up the ball on their first drive, as Lawrence fumbled on the third play of the night after a massive sack by Jets DT Quinnen Williams.

With that fumble, the Jaguars now have more opening drives with a turnover (four) than they have with a score (three) this season.

The Jets took advantage of the early turnover by scoring a field goal to take a 3-0 lead from the start.

Moving

Jacksonville tied things up with a field goal, putting in a 10-play, 61-yard drive on their next possession.

The Jets responded with tight end Tyler Conklin picking up 27 yards on New York’s final practice in the first quarter, but the home side weren’t able to turn that momentum into points and ended up throwing .

The Jags advance

In the Jags practice that followed, Lawrence scored on third down, giving Jacksonville their first lead of the game, 10-3.

Then the road team extended their lead with a 45-yard field goal late in the second quarter to make it 13-3 at the break.

Move the chains!

The Jags kicked things off in the second half with another field goal, taking a 16-3 lead early in the third quarter.

New QB

Wilson was benched late in the third quarter for backup QB Streveler, who the Jets activated from the practice squad.

The change came after the Jets fan erupted in “We want Streveler” chants around MetLife Stadium.

no give up

With Streveler at the helm, the Jets got to work moving down to try and close the gap…

…but the Jaguars defense proved too strong.

Jacksonville then added another field goal after the turnover to seal the deal, 19-3.
