One single second was enough and it was over. In the 29th minute of the extraleague hockey match between Motor České Budějovice and Karlovy Vary, David Bernard took the fate of the match into his own hands. A defender who grew up playing hockey at the winter stadium in Písek. Time stopped at the magic number 28:28.
David Bernardo’s unconventional goal celebration

- Bernard is a defender. Suddenly he was in front of the goalkeeper Hrachovina. Watch the video, how he was able to trick Daniel Gazda with a clever trick and shoot. To everyone’s surprise, the puck went into the goal: 2:0 for K. Vary. Motor’s goalkeeper Dominik Hrachovina was probably surprised as well. He could have caught that luck…
And why was Bernard moving in a space where he theoretically had nothing to do? “They were throwing the puck away.” And the Pisecki inmate noticed it. “I caught him at the blue line at the last moment. I wanted to shoot as soon as he got to me, but I saw the defender somehow kneeling in front of me, trying to push me into the corner.” Then he performed a brilliant pull-up that even Connor McDavid wouldn’t be ashamed of. “I don’t even know where it came from in my head,” laughed Bernard. “I still pulled it under me and immediately fired. I basically don’t know more.”
Hujer? More to Bernard at the Motor match. They took over the entire sector
Then something happened that the Budvar Arena hadn’t experienced in a long time. An unconventional goal celebration. David Bernard dropped his gloves and helmet and left the ice in a forward bend with the help of the custodian. “My mouth hurt,” he says with a smile on his face, which was decorated with a trace of Valské’s foul and subsequent treatment. “The boys said it was a beautiful smuggler,” the striker named his goal-kick, which was accompanied by an unpleasant blow to the face.
And the celebration? “I wasn’t happy about the goal at all,” the Karlovy Vary defender nods. “I immediately went to ice and got treated immediately. Only then, when I came back to the changing room, did the boys and I celebrate in some way.” It was a golden second for K. Vary. A goal for 2:0, a penalty for Valský for 2 + 2 minutes and another goal in the power play, which was scored even before the first two minutes had passed, and therefore the power play continued. It was practically after the match. “We laughed about it,” Bernard describes the atmosphere at the Karlovy Vary interchange. “The guys asked me what kind of goal celebration it was, that I dropped my gloves, that they hadn’t seen it before.” It was a celebration of a goal, the likes of which Budvar Arena has probably never seen before.
The shooter found himself in the Budvar arena, but only during the break. In competition. Like Marcela
Penalties were also a big topic in the match. The visitors had nine sent off! Bernard sent a not-so-flattering thought to the opposing team. “There were really a lot of our expulsions. The day before the match, we had a special meeting on this topic. We told ourselves that we must not foul, then we come to the first period and we have maybe four penalties. If we were against an opponent with a better power play, they would punish it with one or two goals and the match would have developed completely differently.” Bernard also added a logical addition: “If it was two zero for Motor, we would be in trouble.”
But Motor is not well, he did not score in the power play. On the contrary. The guests opened the scoring of the match in a weakened state.
