Pontoglio, a natural terraiolo and one of the few highlanders of the one-handed backhand, returned home a few days ago with yet another transoceanic flight, this time after a stay south of the Equator for three months. The year that is about to end has brought a dowry to the tennis player from Rovato seven Open tournaments won in Italy. In Treviglio (in the province of Bergamo), Bovegno, Castellucchio (Mantova), Bagnatica (Bergamo), in the Orobic capital, in Maglie (a double, in Puglia, in the Leccese area), and in Carpenedolo.

In Colombia he won a doubles tournament paired with the young countryman Alessio Zanotti, son of Rosa and Oscar, mother and father of the Cellatica club, which is the training base for Pontocop, when he is in Italy. The same couple also hit one final in Bolivialand in which Pontoglio and Zanotti also played two semifinals.

In singles, in South America, Davide finally played a final and a semistopping four times in the second round.

Secret and goals

«I have been following i Horacio Anselmi’s training methods, Argentine guru of athletic training for many sports, including weightlifting, rugby, boxing, judo and karate – he says -. The Lui system helps develop power and responsiveness, which are the foundation of tennis. This year I feel I’ve grown physically, but also in managing matches and emotions. The forehand is probably the most improved stroke in the past 12 months. But I feel I have a lot of leeway on everything, even if I’m already thirty and even if I train without a coach. I can perfect my serve, net play and backhand.”

The goals for 2023? Pontoglio, who also plays in Serie B1 with Treviglio, wants «to play as much as possible, perhaps even on concrete, because I dream of entering the best 500 in the world».
