The NBA has announced the start and end dates for the 2023-24 season

The NBA announced that the The 2023/2024 season will start on October 24th and end on April 14th. Normally, a season begins around the second/third week of October, for the season to come, however, an exception has been made by moving the start by a few days.

Also, the commissioner NBA Adam Silver is considering the option of inserting a seasonal tournament during regular season games. The reason is to try to break the monotony of the 82 seasonal games that don’t always tend to give a show.

“I recognize that if we were to do it, it will hardly be an instant success”, dice Silver. “I understand that there are a lot of questions from players and fans right now. But I think we can create new traditions. Things change over time. It’s something I’m very focused on. I think this will help the fans, allowing them to enjoy another tournament within the season. Of course, it won’t be of great value, but it will still be something meaningful to play for.”

If the idea of the tournament goes through, the regular season would move to having 80 games. Then, the eight qualified teams will move on to the elimination phase which would start from the round of 16. The idea is tempting. This tournament could greatly raise the show and bring more fans to the NBA.

Even the coach dei Denver Nuggets, Michael Malone commented on: “It’s all about the interest of the fans. I know they do that a lot in football all over the world. I don’t know how it will work. I don’t know the details. But, if it’s good for the game and the league supports it, then the 30 teams and their respective 30 coaches will support it as well.”

This tournament has been talked about for some time within the season but, perhaps never like this time, has it been really close to its realisation. The coming months will tell us if, for the next NBA season, there will be important news.
