Today 33 years old, Glenn Anthony “TJ” House is an American former professional baseball pitcher who played Major League Baseball for the Cleveland Indians and the Toronto Blue Jays. In the weekend TJ House she came out on social media with an open-hearted statement, announcing her engagement to her historic partner Ryan Neitzel.
“I have struggled all my life to be comfortable in my own skin. I intentionally distanced myself from people to try and protect myself.” wrote Glenn. “It’s disheartening how one simple thing can change someone’s opinion of you in seconds. It’s taken me years to wake up every morning and tell myself that I’m loved for who I am, what’s inside of me, that I’ve never really let out.”
Despite having had an important career, making the most unthinkable dreams come true, House came home every night thinking only and only about how to change.
“Deep down, I wanted something more, I wanted to be loved not for what I did, but for who I was”, he confessed. The 33-year-old underlined how the recent approval of the Respect for Marriage Act has definitively pushed him to publicly come out. Introducing her future husband.
“The Respect for Marriage Act protects us to have the same rights and opportunities that heterosexual couples have. It protects the same benefits. It makes us the same as all of you. It allows me and Ryan Neitzel to come together and create something wonderful. It gives me the confidence to get engaged to the one I love (she said yes!), and to marry her. I have a wonderful boyfriend who challenges me every day to become a better person. To live life authentically. One I’ve never deserved, but I’m lucky enough to have. Love is for everyone”.
At the end of his social coming out, House revealed that he is “finally healing” after hiding his identity for “more than 20 years”. Thousands of comments received, from fans and former players.
In a statement to Outsports, Major League Baseball senior vice president Billy Bean said: “This is a big day for the league and for baseball“. Last August, San Francisco Giant Team baseball player Solomon Bates also came out, making him the second professional baseball player to do so publicly after David Denson in 2015.
