Alexander Zverev has returned to competition since the start of pre-season exhibitions after his serious right ankle injury suffered in the semi-final against Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros.
The German is well aware that he is far from being back to his best level, his pre-season preparation has not been so bad as he even treated himself to Novak Djokovic’s “sclap” at the World Tennis League, despite two subsequent defeats in the United Cup.
However, the current thirteenth player in the world has obviously still not digested his Parisian injury because he considers that he was playing the best tennis of his career and that he could have won his first Grand Slam tournament.
“I’m not in the shape I was in Paris. I could have won Roland‐Garros. I could have been #1. I’m not at that level. That doesn’t mean I can’t change it.” said Alexander Zverev.
« I am not in the form I was in Paris. I could have won the French Open. Could have been No 1. Im not on this level. That doesnt mean I cant change it, cant get better with a few matches, get better on Court«
