Running back Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers suffered a calf injury in Sunday’s 19-12 win over the Dallas Cowboys in the National Conference semifinals.

According to head coach Kyle Shanahan on Monday, however, the star player will be in charge next Sunday when the Niners take on the Philadelphia Eagles for a spot in Super Bowl LVII.

McCaffrey joined the 49ers in Week 7 after acquiring it from the Carolina Panthers. Since then, he has become a very important cog in the attack of the Californian club.

In 11 regular season games with his new team, McCaffrey has rushed for 746 yards and scored six touchdowns on 159 carries. He also caught 52 passes for 464 yards and four majors.

Against the Cowboys, the 26-year-old had the game-changing touchdown in the fourth quarter. The injury to his calf, however, kept him out of the field for a while in the second half. He still participated in 44 of his club’s 66 offensive games.

“It was a battle, but I got through it,” McCaffrey told the NBC Sports network after the 49ers win.
