High level and strong Lower Franconia

The anticipation of the judo classic was great for everyone involved after the three-year break caused by corona. Traditionally, there was a women’s and a men’s competition with five judoka per team. Teams from federal states such as Baden-Württemberg, Hesse, Saxony and Rhineland-Palatinate traveled to Lohr.

You could see exciting fights and spectacular throws. The winner of the women’s competition was the DJK Eppelheim at the first appearance in Lohr. In the final, the team from near Heidelberg defeated JC Bad Ems 3:2. In the final of the men’s competition, TSB Ravensburg clearly won 4:1 against Team Rheinland.

In the strong field of participants with established teams, the teams from Lower Franconia only started as outsiders. The TG Karlstadt team was able to achieve a surprise success in the men’s category. The team from Main-Spessart only lost in the semifinals against eventual winner Ravensburg with 1:4 and thus took third place.

The women’s teams DJK Aschaffenburg and KG Eltmann/Elsenfeld each reached the semi-finals after successful preliminary round fights. DJK Aschaffenburg lost there to JC Bad Ems 1:4. Eltmann/Elsenfeld had to admit defeat to Eppelheim with a score of 2:3. But both were happy about the third place.

The young women’s team from host TSV Lohr did well, but were eliminated in the prelims.
