The Puerto Rico Baseball Federation (FBPR) announced today, Thursday, the appointment of José ‘Cheo’ Rosado as bullpen coach, with a view to the 2023 World Baseball Classic (WBC).
Rosado will occupy the position for the third time in a row, after having been part of the runners-up in the 2013 and 2017 editions.
“Cheo Rosado’s experience is necessary, especially for him to work hand in hand with pitching coach Ricky Bones. Both have worked together before and I’m sure they will help the pitching group, which will be in excellent hands,” said Joey Solá, the team’s general manager.
Rosado pitched five seasons in the Majors and for 11 years worked with the New York Yankees organization in Minor League Baseball. He currently works for the Korea Baseball Organization league in South Korea. In addition, he was the pitching coach for the National Team in the 2019 Premier 12 tournament.
“It is a challenge that I take on with great enthusiasm. Super grateful to God and to the Baseball Federation for making me part of the team for the third consecutive year. There are no words to describe the emotion and the great memories of 2017, when they received us in Puerto Rico,” recalled Rosado.
The bullpen coach praised the talent of the Puerto Rican pitching staff.
“Those who are part of the pitching staff have been with me or Ricky Bones before. This facilitates the work to prepare the games and practices, the language is direct and we understand each other because there is a lot of trust between the parties, ”he established.
