Laura Placencia, student of the Tec campus Aguascalientes He was part of the team that represented Mexico in the Basketball World Cup in Hungary 2022.
This event is organized by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) where brings together the best players who they mostly play in the ABE League.
This edition was held at the Hungarian city of Debrecen where Laura participated in the U-18 World Championship in 3×3 modality.
“It is very gratifying to know that you are one of the few players selected to represent your country”shared Laura Plascencia.
National Basketball Team: a new experience
It was selected from more than 60 players from Mexico, leaving behind several elimination tests.
The team was in concentration for a month in the Mexican Olympic Committee where trained and prepared to be able to travel to Hungary.
When the competition arrives, they integrated to the Group B of the contest World Cup to meet athletes from Holland, Hungary, France and Uzbekistan.
“The 3×3 modality in basketball has gained popularity in Mexico; It allows the players individual development on the court, but at the same time it is a highly competitive practice because it demands a great physical condition from the athlete”shared the basketball player Plascencia.
The Mexicans managed to position themselves in the 14th place of the event where The United States was crowned champion.
“Constant improvement is a complicated process that never ends,” says Laura Plascencia.
For the hydrocálida and the equipment, the challenges started from the first day of games.
“In the first game we did not obtain favorable results; However, the previous events were observed in retrospect and in the second game of the day, we managed to integrate more easily”, pointed out the student Plascencia.

“Nothing is written, everything can change at any time and you should enjoy the process. Complaining does not bear fruit or results, but doing things with passion always allows you to achieve your goals”, shared Plascencia.
His time in basketball
Laura’s story in basketball started when he was eight years old when joining a team for the first time.
Thanks to his performance in this sport, represented Aguascalientes in National Olympics and got two gold medals in the 3×3 modality.
participated in the International Exchange Mexico-Puerto Rico being the only woman to compete in said tournament.
Also, she was awarded the Municipal Award for Sports Merit 2021, that recognizes the trajectory and achievements of the athletes and participated in the Preselection U-17 Heading to the World Cup in Hungary.
Laura was selected in the National High Performance Center (CNAR) and comments that with this, he acquired skills and tools that were useful to him in his tournaments.
Likewise, she shares for CONECTA that the biggest challenge he has faced as an athlete It was his injury because this incident changed completely his pace of play and it took him months to recoverwhere for her, the role of her family and friends was fundamental.
“My family and close friends always support me at my lowest points, when I think I can’t take it anymore, they are the ones who help me get up and not give up,” shared the hydrocalide.
Similarly, for her perseverance was a determining factor in the recovery process, value that allowed him to have an outstanding performance within the world championship.
For Atzimba Vazquez, coach of the representative women’s basketball team at Campus Aguascalientes, this sport leaves a mark on all the people with whom you live or impact.
“This footprint can be good or bad and it is a great responsibility to accept the challenge of having a positive impact,” points out the coach Atzimba.
And also, mention that what is done every day goes beyond a game or basketball, it is something that has a transcendental impact on someone’s life.
“Plascencia has impacted and inspired many women to continue looking for opportunities in this discipline that requires hard work and constant preparation so that when opportunities come they can be ready to take them,” Atzimba pointed out.
