Angelique Kerber (35) is in the middle of the most beautiful tennis break of her life – and is now proudly showing the world her baby bump for the first time!
The three-time Grand Slam winner announced her pregnancy in August last year and has been missing from the WTA tour since then. Together with friend Franco Bianco, she is looking forward to her first baby, which is expected to be born in March.
The tennis ace celebrated her 35th birthday on Thursday. And as a thank you for the many congratulations, Kerber surprised her fans on Twitter and Instagram with a special photo. Kerber is wearing an elegant black dress and is leaning against a chair. And her “baby ball” can no longer be overlooked.
Kerber writes: “I feel so blessed to receive all of this heartwarming news. The good thing is that this year I’ll have even more time to read them all…even if I miss my traditional Australian Open birthday cake.”
Continue: “It’s probably the first time since I turned 18 that I’m not partying in Melbourne, but I’m in Australia at heart and watching tennis 24/7!”
The tournament in Australia, in which Kerber won a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in 2016 in the final against Serena Williams (41), has been running in Melbourne since January 16. The women’s final will take place on January 28th at the Rod Laver Arena. The men play for the first Grand Slam title of the year a day later.
However, the offspring should not mean the end of a career for Kerber!
In the SPORT BILD interview at the end of October last year, she said: “I think I’ll be more towards the end of the year (2023; Anm.d.Red.) Come back. So more New York than Wimbledon, but if it’s possible in Wimbledon, then gladly there too.
Her favorite tournament, Wimbledon (here she won the title in 2018) starts on July 3, 2023, the US Open, which she won in 2016, on August 28.
Kerber: “I’ll take my time, because when I come back – then really. I want to attack straight away and not just play tournaments for training.”
But first, Kerber and her boyfriend can look forward to the birth of their first child …
