The penultimate World Cup stage of this season took place in Dresden from February 3 to 5. Each athlete could skate in two distances out of four. R. Bērziņš chose to start twice in the 1500 meter distance – they were two separate distances with different composition of participants. In one distance, Reinis won the 9th place in the competition of 50 athletes, and in the second distance he took the 3rd place in the competition of 52 participants, conceding only to athletes from Korea and the Netherlands.
This is the second medal for R.Bērziņas at the ISU World Cup stage – in November he also won a bronze medal in the 1500 meters distance. In January, however, the athlete won a bronze medal at the European Championship in the 500-meter distance.
This weekend, from February 10 to 12, the final World Cup of the season will take place in the Dutch city of Dordrecht.
It should be reminded that when evaluating the results presented by R.Bērziņa in 2022, he was recognized as Jelgava’s 2022 best athlete in Olympic sports.
