From 18 to 19 February 2023, the fifth edition of the Badminton Grand Prix Tournament “Trofeo di Ginosa” organized by the sports association “Sport Academy Taranto” took place in Ginosa (Ta).
The tournament attracted over one hundred athletes from various Italian regions (South Tyrol, Campania, Lazio, Marche, Puglia and Sicily).
A large number of Santermani athletes from the “Sport Experience Ideas” sports association took part in the tournament accompanied by the Indian coach Mr. Kallol Roy who achieved excellent results.
All Santermani athletes, accompanied by the club’s sports managers Giuseppe Lassandro and Domenico Porfido, climbed onto the podium, being awarded by Carlo Beninati, president of the Italian Badminton Federation.
A first place, in the men’s singles master, for Roccangelo Bitetti.
Several second places: Marzia Porfido (Women’s Singles), Giuseppe Caputo and Angelo Raffaele Caponio (Under 17 Mixed Doubles) and for Michele Girardi (Under 17 Men’s Doubles).
Bronze medals went to Maria Gemma Porfido (Women’s Singles and Women’s Doubles), Marzia Porfido (Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles), Vito Ferrulli (Mixed Doubles), Angelo Raffaele Caponio Caponio (Men’s Singles Under 17 and Mixed Doubles Under 19).
Among the match officials there are also some Santermans: Maria Grazia Leone (referee) and Rocco Ciccarone (referee).
Next appointment with the national badminton tournaments in Santeramo in Colle on 25 and 26 March with the tenth edition of the “Santeramo Open” Grand Prix Tournament.
