A Ligurian away match for the bluceleste team
Chiara Landi and Piera Tocchetti win as a couple in LIV C
NOVI LIGURE – There are 9 athletes from Badminton & Croquet Club Lecco who went on Saturday and Sunday to the lands of Novi Ligure. The Piedmontese Boccardo club, always active in organizing the competitions, brought 120 athletes of all ages to this first tournament to compete in the different levels: A, B and C.
The youngest Bluceleste present was Matthias Cattaneo (10 years) who together with his father Nicola, Lv. C, played the men’s doubles in the knockout draw against the home junior athletes Matteo Congias and Alex Piovani. A very good game, played at a high level unfortunately unfavorable to our athletes who surrendered with the score 18-21 17-21.
In the singles Mattia Cattaneo played in the draw against Stefano Torrielli, a well-prepared home athlete who put Mattia in difficulty. 9-21 10-21
Nicola Cattaneo in the men’s singles Liv C does not pass the group as in the mixed doubles paired with Chiara Landi who are beaten by Alex Piovani and Adele Foti.
Andrew Xavier, the under 17 of B&CCLecco, played in the singles Liv. B directly into the board. First beating Matteo Lancellotti (Genoa BC) 21-10 21-11, then the very strong Indian athlete Jatinder Lav (CUS Bergamo) 21-16 17-21 24-22. He had to give up in the final against the expert Riccardo Cerami 16-21 10-21 (BC Milano).
In mixed doubles with your partner Adriana Atash Faraz (New Sport Lodi), Lev. C, have a walkover and beat their teammates in the first game Piera Touches con Edvid Milan 21-16 18-21 21-14. They reply by winning against Alex Piovani and Adele Foti (Borccardo Novi) 21-12 21-19 reaching the final where they find Giuseppe Luca Caracausi ex national teamed up with Anna Gaziano (BC Milano) they don’t let our young athletes play 11-21 11- 21. A deserved silver which, however, leaves a doubt on the self-declaration of the categories during the entries. In men’s doubles Andrew Xavier he tried his hand for the first time with his father Achille who unfortunately leave immediately, against the strong Leonardo Fava and Edoardo Parusso 10-21 9-21.
At his first tournament, Achille Saverio, master athlete, performed really well. In men’s singles Liv. C, won all group matches entering the draw, where
unfortunately he finds Matteo Congias who leaves him no way to set up his game by giving up 6-21 -10-21
Still in Lv. C, Edvidio Milani wins only one group game and fails to qualify for the draw. In mixed doubles with Piera Tocchetti they win the first match against Mr and Mrs Bettoni (CUS Bergamo) but lose the next match against their team mates, and in men’s doubles with Denis Passador they don’t reach the quarterfinals. Same result for Denis in singles Liv. C and in the mixed doubles where with Roberta Brenzone they are eliminated in the first round and Roberta also in the women’s doubles.
Different the performance of Piera Tocchetti Liv. C who in the women’s singles, first surpasses the group by beating Martina Benzi (Acqui BC) 21-17 22-20 and Thuy Hang Nguyen, seeded no. 3 with the result 21-7 21-12. In the draw she wins against Petra Feciale 21-10 21-13, Nicole Bertini 21-8 21-7, Sara Marchesini 21-19 21-13 and reaches the final where, however, she gives in to the young Anna Gaziano 12-21 13-21. A silver medal that is close after all the victories of the two days.
Also Clare Landi Lv. C wins the matches and passes the group against Jayantnala Chandresakan 21-6 21-7 and Lidia Forco 21-15 21-5. In the quarterfinals she also wins against Arianna Vignola 21-6 21-14 but does not reach the final. A deserved bronze and an excellent return after so many years of absence from competitions.
Paired with teammate Piera Tocchetti, it’s a whole other race. The first match on the draw is the most challenging, playing against friends Roberta Brenzone and Sara Marchesini. The score, however, is clear 21-10 21-14. Landi and Tocchetti also beat the very strong Anna Gaziano and Qianying Giada 22-20 21-17 and in the semifinal Stefania Monica Herendeu with Alessia Zucchelli 21-8 21-12. There is no game in the final. The Blucelesti start fearlessly imposing their game right away without leaving time for their opponents to react. With a clear double 21-8 they are on the top step of the podium.
A long weekend of competitions that precedes the opening of the Italian Team Championship series B which will start this coming Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 February at Malles Venosta price.
