Misunderstanding prevails among some members of Ovale Ensemble, an opposition group that resigned from the federal steering committee last week. Jean-Claude Skrela is one of them and the 73-year-old spoke today in a press release: “My position was that we should remain on the Steering Committee of the French Rugby Federation (FFR): out of respect for the clubs that voted for us, granting us successively 49 and 51%. Our resignation prevents them from being represented on the Steering Committee of the FFR. We cannot abandon the clubs that have placed their trust in us” he detailed before continuing “Why withdraw now? I don’t know the reason.”
Dissatisfied with the situation, he contacted the FFR to find out if it was possible for him to cancel his resignation. In vain. Still bitter, he indicated “that it was not a decision taken collectively within the group of elected officials from Ovale Ensemble”. Nine elected officials (among them, Florian Grill and Fabien Pelous) therefore left office, leaving federal politics unopposed until new elections.
