DM Suhas LY from Greater Noida makes India proud at Spain International Badminton Championships

Greater Noida (DM) District Judge and Indian semi-shuttle star Suhas LY won the bronze medal at the International Parabadminton Championships on Sunday. The 39-year-old came back losing 14-21, 21-13, 21-19 in the semifinals to compatriot Sukant Kadam and took home the bronze medal. Facing the top, second seed Kadam suffered a 12-21, 21-8, 21-13 loss at the hands of Tarun to settle for the silver medal.

After taking home the bronze medal, the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games silver medalist took to his official Twitter account and said: ‘Happy to win the bronze medal at the International Men’s Badminton Individual Championship of Spain. Jai Hind’. While Tarun clinched gold in the singles event, Indians Pramod Bhagat and Sukant Kadam beat Tarun and Nitish at odds of 22-20, 12-21, 21-9 to win gold in the doubles final.

Suhas LY is an IAS Officer, currently serving as the District Magistrate of Gautam Buddha Nagar, UP. He previously served as Prayagraj District Magistrate and received the Arjuna Award for bringing the glories of sport to the nation. He first made headlines during the Asian Championships in 2016 for winning the gold medal.

He won a silver in the SL4 men’s singles event at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. He then took home India’s second-highest sporting award after Ratna Khel, the Arjuna Award at the 2021 Spanish Parabadminton International Championships.
