Evenepoel conquers the UAE Tour and Adam Yates takes the last stage

MADRID, 26 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Belgian cyclist Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-Quick Step) has been proclaimed the winner of the UAE Tour this Sunday after the dispute of the seventh and final stage, disputed between Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium and Jebel Hafeet over 153 kilometers and in which the British Adam Yates (UAE Emirates) has taken the last partial victory.

Evenepoel retained the leader’s red jersey, which he put on on the third day, in a day that ended up in Jebel Hafeet, a climb in which, with six kilometers to go, he neutralized the breakaway of the day.

It was on those ramps that Yates launched an attack to which only the Belgian responded, aware that overall victory could escape him. Thus, the Briton crossed the finish line in a time of 3:29:42, ten seconds ahead of Evenepoel and 42 seconds ahead of Frenchman Geoffrey Bouchard (AG2R-Citroën).

With this, Yates slipped into the final podium of the race, one minute behind Evenepoel and third behind the Australian Lucas Plapp (INEOS Grenadiers), expelling the Spanish Pello Bilbao (Bahrain-Victorious). Evenepoel succeeds the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar in the Emirati race.
