Flight chaos becomes a nuisance: FCS journey becomes an odyssey – series B

In Cosenza, FC Südtirol not only have to fight on the pitch. The return trip to Bolzano became a big annoyance for the white and red. In the end it lasted almost 28 hours.

FC Südtirol flew from Bozen to Lamezia Terme, which is around 70 kilometers south of Cosenza, on Friday with a SkyAlps plane. Immediately after the game against the Calabrians (0:0) they were supposed to go back to South Tyrol – but that wasn’t the case. Because the SkyAlps machine had a defect, it had to stay on the ground.

FCS team manager Emiliano Bortoluzza (who is responsible for organizing away trips) located a Ryanair flight flying to Bergamo the same evening. Because around 100 seats were free and the South Tyroleans were “only” around 40 people, this flight seemed to be the perfect alternative. But now the horrendous bureaucracy came into play. Ryanair does not allow group bookings to be made. Each individual should have booked their ticket themselves, but there was no time for that. The plane took off with empty seats but without the FCS entourage. Another night in the hotel had to be booked. The search for a return journey continued.

Filippo De Col, Kevin Vinetot, Filippo Berra, Gabriel Lunetta and Nicholas Siega had organized themselves in the meantime and flew to Milan at 6 a.m. on Sunday. The club expressly allowed the initiative. Because the SkyAlps machine could not be repaired (which was the great hope), the rest of the crew did not fly to Milan until 3 p.m. From there we took the bus to Bolzano, where we finally arrived at 8:15 p.m.
