Fluminense was beaten by Volta Redonda this Thursday (02/02) for the sixth round of the Carioca Championship. Tricolor controlled possession and sought to create opportunities, but ended up bumping into the strong opposing defense and was unable to reverse the result at Estádio Raulino de Oliveira.

Under the command of Fernando Diniz, the team returns to the field on Sunday (05/02), when they face Audax Rio, at 6 pm, in Maracanã, for the seventh round of the competition.

FIRST TIME

The match started agitated, with Fluminense making good moves. After a few climbs to the attack, the first real chance came in the 12th minute. In a corner kick by Arias, Manoel got ahead of the opponent’s defense, managed to deflect and hit the crossbar. In the next move, the ball returned to the middle of the area, and the defender, by letter, returned to scare the opponent.

At 22, Cano took advantage of the space and sent a bomb from outside the area, but the ball went too high. Two minutes later, the team regained possession in the attacking field, and Keno, on the left side, crossed out. At 26, it was Samuel Xavier’s turn, in his 100th game with the tricolor shirt, to remove paint from the crossbar. In the 35th minute, with the ball left over, Calegari tried to take the shot, but the goalkeeper saved it. After a lot of exchange of passes, André cleared two defenders and hit close to the post at 41 minutes.

SECOND TIME

At the beginning of the second stage, Lelê opened the scoring for Volta Redonda. Behind the reaction, Tricolor disputed all the balls, and in the 19th minute, after the team won a corner, Martinelli headed out after a charge from Ganso. At 28 minutes, Arias sent a cross into the small area, but the goalkeeper made the save.

With greater control of possession, the team kept pressing in the attacking field, and again led to real danger in the 44th minute, when Giovanni crossed from the left end and Cano had the header deflected. In extra time, Cano’s chewed finish ended up in the hands of the goalkeeper.
