The earthquake disaster in Turkey and Syria moves many football professionals. National player Ilkay Gündogan is now starting a special fundraiser for the crisis areas. The Manchester City pro’s father is on site.

Dhe national soccer player Ilkay Gündogan from Manchester City and his wife Sara donated two truckloads of bread to the crisis areas as a result of the earthquake disaster in Turkey and Syria.

The couple organized the transport to the southeast of Turkey with the food service provider HEG Gida from Balikesir, Turkey, the home region of Gündogan’s parents. “My family and I were very busy with the events,” said Ilkay Gündogan. “Our thoughts are now with the people in the crisis areas. It is essential that we all stick together now. The people depend on our help.”

Clothing and blankets are to follow

The midfielder’s father is currently in Balikesir and helped organize the transport. “The encouragement and support we have received so far has been great,” said Ilkay Gündogan. “We are currently trying to collect further food and material donations in the form of baby food, blankets, hygiene products and warm clothing. We will then arrange for transport to Turkey in coordination with the Turkish Embassy in London.”

Gündogan had already been socially committed during the corona pandemic. Among other things, he supported the people in the Heinsberg district who were particularly affected by the virus with private donations for a shopping service for the needy and for thank-you packages for the nursing staff in the intensive care units of the Heinsberg hospitals.
