Edith Delaunay et Carol Anne Mazurier live at Heudebouville (Eure). In a few weeks, they will fly to Sri Lanka to participate in the 2023 edition of the Raid Amazones which runs from Sunday March 19 to Wednesday March 29. “It is by practicing sport together that the two thirty-somethings have forged bonds of friendship. Our children were in school together. That’s how we met, remembers Edith. We have been playing sports together for three years. »
Sports and solidarity adventure
The two mothers form the “Les Raid’L” team. In recent months, they have intensified their training to prepare for this 100% female adventure during which they will face 300 competitors in trail, canoe, run & bike, mountain bike, archery and treasure hunt. “There are six half-days of sporting events”, specifies Carol-Anne, recalling that the afternoons are devoted to relationships and solidarity activities with the local population: “Most of these activities are oriented towards children and the women. The Raid Amazone also recovers a percentage of our registration fees to donate them to an association”.
To carry out their project, the two teammates can count on the financial and material support of relatives and local businesses. “The Seine-Eure Agglomeration has also agreed to support us by giving us goodies that we will distribute on the spot”, specifies Edith.
Support for a school in Cambodia
This experience is also a way for the two adventurers to support the NGO Lyli-Association which supports the children of a Cambodian school. “At first, the Raid Amazones was to take place in Cambodia. We therefore chose to support a local association that helps children in their studies. “Ahead of the raid, a sporting event is planned Saturday March 11, 2023 at the Heudebouville village hall to raise funds for the association. “We will offer cardio-fitness, line dancing and Pilates activities. All of the funds will be donated to the association to help finance the studies of two young students who want to join a hotel school. »
“Exceeding our limits”
Less than a month before leaving for Sri Lanka, the two friends are eager to start the adventure. They expect to live an experience rich in emotions. “We are not only taking part in this adventure to set the best time. The goal is above all to go to the end and have fun, slips Carol-Anne. We are aware that with the accumulation of fatigue and the weather conditions, we are going to experience difficult times, but the objective is also to exceed our limits. »
The pair launches a call to recover the equipment necessary for their adventure. “An online kitty is also open to support Lyli Association,” recalls Carol-Anne Mazurier.
