The Italy judo-team is leaving for Tel Avivwhere a Grand Slam with 56 participating nations, over four hundred athletes competed. The blue delegation made up of nineteen athletes who will be followed by ten technicians is nourished and confident.
Raffaele Toniolo: “The first race of the season, this GS in Tel Aviv, for our TOP players after the training period in Japan in January. With 56 nations and over 400 athletes at the start, the race in Israel is very tough. Our athletes are ready to win important points for Olympic qualification and to do well. With respect to the call-ups, Giulia Carnà and Elios Manzi are absent, who must observe a period of rest to recover from a small injury to a finger on his hand”.
Raffaele Parlati: “The Telaviv GS will be the first stage of 2023 for the national team in the 60 kg Angelo Pantano will compete, in the 66 kg Elios Manzi will not fight due to a hand injury that will keep him away from the tatami for about 15 days, the novelty in this category will be the return of Fabio Basile in the category that saw him triumph in Rio 2016, in the 73 kg there will be both Giovanni Esposito and Manuel Lombardo, in the 81 kg Antonio Esposito, in the 90 kg Christian Parlati and Mungai, in the 100 kg Gennaro Pirelli. Having done a good job in Japan, I am convinced that all the boys can start this year in the best possible way”.
Francesco Bruyere: “First race of 2023 for the Women’s Team, we come from a good build-up period in the first part of the year, in which the girls worked a lot technically and physically to further raise their level. We have reached an excellent state of form and there is a great desire to get back into the game immediately to show what we are worth. Five of our athletes start as seeded and this gives us good hope, the race is a race and we will give our best as always”.
