Lima, Feb 16 (EFE).- Lima will host 241 sports tournaments this year, several of them regional and qualifying for the Pan American Games in Santiago, in the venues built for the 2019 Pan American Games, reported the agency in charge of conservation and administration of that infrastructure.

“In the framework of its third anniversary (of the 2019 games), Lima establishes itself as the capital of sports in America, hosting qualifying tournaments for Santiago 2023,” the Legacy Project said in a statement on Thursday.

He added that several of these competitions will be held “in a decisive year” to attend the Pan American and Parapan American Games in Santiago and also as part of the “Olympic dream” with a view to Paris 2024.

“Athletes and para-athletes will seek glory and success, competing in qualifying events, from the Legado de la Videna, Costa Verde, Villa María del Triunfo, Villa El Salvador and Punta Rocas venues,” he said.

Among the competitions, the U15 Women’s Softball Pan American will take place in April, at the Villa María del Triunfo venue, and also the South American C1 BMX Freestyle, at the Costa Verde cycling complex in Lima.

The Peruvian Table Tennis Federation will organize the “Santiago 2023 Special Qualifying Event” next May and in July the Pan American Fencing and Judo tournaments will be held, which will allow athletes from the region to seal their qualification for the Pan American Games in Santiago .

Meanwhile, the National Paralympic Association of Peru (Anpperú) will organize the “Second Paraathletes Open-Lima 2023” in August, at the Athletic Stadium of the National Sports Village (Videna).

During the year there will also be national tournaments “to promote internal competition and increase the performance of athletes”, among them the “Summer Bowling League”, the “First Speed ​​Skating Promotion Tournament”, the “Kids Water Polo Circuit sub’12 and sub’13” and the “National Senior Baseball Tournament”.

“In this way, the Legacy venues transcend sports and the infrastructure, which remains intact after Lima 219, is key to promoting high performance in our country. Currently 2,300 athletes and para-athletes train at Legacy, approximately 44% of them They are women,” he concluded. EFE
