MLB News: Freddie Freeman raves about Steve Cohen and the Mets.

It was hard for Atlanta Braves fans not to have a sense of deja vu this offseason when Dansby Swanson signed with the Cubs in free agency. It came a year after an offseason where former NL MVP and fan favorite Freddie Freeman opted to sign with the Dodgers as a free agent.

Things got a little hazy throughout last season as to the Braves’ efforts to re-sign Freeman and his agent’s influence on the decision. However, it was clear that upon his return, the Atlanta faithful chanted “Freddie” and he remained an icon for fans. But his latest comments could be a game-changer.

Asked about the Braves’ biggest rival, the New York Mets, Freeman praised Steve Cohen and his team for what they’ve done.

“I love what he’s doing,” Freeman said, via Jon Heyman of the American Press Agency. New York Post. “He wants to win. He tells fans, ‘I’m in on it with you guys. He’s a baseball fan, and he’s a fan of his team. »

Freeman went on to say he had no problem with Cohen’s overspending to improve the Mets, noting that it was every other team’s job to beat them. That said, seeing the former Brave being so complimentary to the Mets isn’t going to be popular in Atlanta.

Perhaps the only way Freeman could have rubbed salt into Atlanta’s collective heart would have been to sign with the Mets instead of the Dodgers.
