A super performance by Pigliacelli avoided the rosanero defeat at Renzo Barbera: against Ternana it ended 0-0. Third draw in a row for Corini’s team, after those against Frosinone and Sudtirol. The hosts suffered the supremacy of Ternana in the first half, in the second half with the substitutions they grew and built up some goals: in all circumstances, however, Iannarilli was punctual.
The initial choices
Corini deploys Masciangelo in defense and confirms Broh in midfield with Gomes and Segre; Valente starts in place of Di Mariano. Lucarelli responds with a 4-3-2-1, which also lends itself to a reading with a three-man defense. There are 16,862 spectators at Barbera: 11,465 season-ticket holders and 5,397 tickets issued.
The race immediately presents high rhythms, with the teams trying to verticalize quickly. Ternana came close to scoring through Mantovani, with a nice header masterfully deflected for a corner by Pigliacelli. The rosanero responded with Tutino, who splintered the crossbar with a nice right-footed shot from inside the penalty area. On 21′ Partipilo starts on the edge of offside and is knocked down by Pigliacelli in the penalty area: the referee indicates the spot but the assistant raises the flag. The Var check confirms the offside very little. Palermo makes unusual mistakes in the disengagement phase, which lead to very dangerous restarts for the Umbrians. At half an hour Diakitè heads off and finds Pigliacelli again, on the developments of the following corner Diakitè still stands out with the right time and ball on the ball. Palermo suffers a lot, Ternana crushes the rosanero in their own half. The first half goes on file with a 0-0 partial, several goals opportunities produced by Lucarelli’s team.
Second half changes
At the start of the second half Lanna sends Aurelio and Saric onto the field, Masciangelo and Segre out. The rosanero immediately try with Valente and Nedelcearu, in the first attempt high ball in the second comfortable save by Iannarilli on the header from the centre-back. La Ternana responds with a flash of Partipilo: Pigliacelli still prodigious in the corner. The Rosanero fullback is miraculous again on Partipilo, shortly after Saric doesn’t find the right corner from a good position. Iannarilli makes a good save on a powerful shot by Tutino, the Rosanero team tries to hurt the Umbrian defence. Palermo now press hard, forcing Ternana to defend. Other changes for Lanna: Soleri and Di Mariano in, Brunori and Valente out. Lucarelli replies with Defendi and Martella instead of Falletti and Corrado. Defendi immediately forced out due to injury, inside Paghera.
In the final Lanna puts in Vido, in place of Tutino. Lucarelli inserts Bogdan for Mantovani and Capanni for Palumbo. In the first minute of added time Vido shoots from the edge but his shot is weak. Vido still comes close to scoring with a nice left foot but Iannarilli says no, Aurelio can’t find the winning tap-in on the rebound
