Seeking to end the hegemony of the Specters, Recife Mariners announce reinforcements from rivals

The Recife Mariners are willing to reach the top of the Northeast Conference of the Brazilian American Football League (BFA League). The Pernambuco team announced the arrival of seven reinforcements that came from arch-rival João Pessoa Espectros and from Santa Cruz Pirates – which after the merger with Recife Apaches became Pernambuco Imortais.

From arch-rival João Pessoa Espectros, offensive lines Lenin Caldeira and Breno Araújo arrive. Lenin Caldeira started his career at João Pessoa Espectros, in 2013, playing in defense, and was runner-up in Brazil that same year. From 2014, Lenin moved to the offensive line. In the Paraíba team, he was twice champion of the BFA League in 2015 and 2019. Caldeira also played for Brasil Onças, in which he played for the Brazilian national football team in Amarelinha’s first participation in the modality’s world cup. The player also spent time at Cruzeiro Imperador and at Rio Football Academy. He was Brazilian champion in 2015 and twice champion in 2019.

Breno Araújo started to play American football at the defunct Recife Horses, at the end of 2015. Then, the athlete played for Santa Cruz Pirates, playing in the Cities Cup, also being champion of this competition for the tricolor team. In 2018, Breno moved on to João Pessoa Espectros, where he remained until last year. During this period, he was three times champion of the Northeast Conference, runner-up in the BFA League, in 2018, and champion of the same national competition in 2019.

From the former Santa Cruz Pirates come defensive lines Pedro Henrique and Walber ‘Tayson’, offensive line Marcelo ‘Toru’, wide receiver João Loureiro and defensive back Erivelton ‘Shark’.

In the last BFA League, Recife Mariners was defeated by João Pessoa Espectros in the Northeast Conference final.
