The Mainz head coach Bo Svensson allowed himself to be carried away by insulting the referee team in the clearly lost round of 16 of the cup against FC Bayern and was therefore banned from the interior of the next DFB cup game.
The DFB announced this on Thursday.
Svensson said to the assistant referee in the 82nd minute of the round of 16 on Wednesday, “You are blind”. Referee Deniz Aytekin (Oberasbach) then showed the Dane the red card and then let it be known that “the referees are not the garbage cans of the nation”.
Mainz Cup against Bayern
The indoor ban begins half an hour before the start of the game and ends half an hour after the final whistle, according to the association’s statement. During this time, the coach is not allowed to stay inside, in the changing rooms, in the players’ tunnel or in the dressing room aisle. During the entire period, he may not come into direct or indirect contact with the team. Svensson has agreed to the verdict, which means that it is final.
Since Mainz were eliminated from the current cup competition, Svensson will only serve out the ban when he makes his next cup appearance. In all probability as a Mainz coach in the 1st round of the cup in August 2023.
