The organizing committee of the Treasure Coast President Day Challenge, in Vero Beach, Florida, announced this morning the disqualification of the Trois-Rivières Estacades #2 from the tournament as the Trois-Rivières team was going to the semi-finals. The Trois-Rivières Blackbirds team apparently raised a question by email to the organizing committee before the tournament about the possible ineligibility of some players on the side of the Estacades team.
The two teams were not going to play against each other in the semi-finals. For the moment, we can feel the discontent in the world of baseball in Trois-Rivières, just like among the parents. According to what we have learned, the Madelinoise team had five players who were going to be 17 before May 1st.
Reached by phone, Gaétan Gagnon (responsible for Sport-Studies Baseball at the Estacades) did not want to comment for the moment, preferring to wait for the team’s return to Trois-Rivières soil.
For his part, the president of the Académie les Aigles, which oversees the Blackbirds, Pascal Boislard, was joined at the end of the afternoon. “We had sent an email to the organization before the start of the tournament, Friday morning, to find out if the Estacades should change their alignment or not. We never got an answer and this morning the decision was made. It was not us who made the decision, but the tournament committee. We are sad for the penalized players in this, but the committee made the decision that the team had an ineligible roster.
Focus of the Eagles
In the midst of baseball registration in Mauricie, an update was needed for the Aigles of Trois-Rivières. Indeed, the Eagles would like to remind you that its structure includes the Aigles de la Mauricie AA teams, as well as the Junior Elite level training (these teams being affiliated with Baseball Québec and Baseball Mauricie).
The Eagles also recall that the Eagles Baseball Academy is an NPO that is in no way associated with the Eagles organization. “Several people have called out to me in recent weeks about the Eagles Baseball Academy and the new teams associated with it. I would therefore like to remind you that we are not directly or indirectly involved in this organization,” said René Martin, president of the Aigles de Trois-Rivières.
