This competition, in its XXI edition, will be held from the 16th to the 19th of the current month of March in its traditional headquarters of the Ciudad Deportiva coliseum, and 22 badminton players will participate there in Cuba, many of them new and with little experience, but with desires to show their qualities and level of play.

Among the members of the national preselection, names such as Taymara Oropesa, Yeyli Ortiz and Leyanis Contreras stand out, among the females, as well as the males Roberto Carlos Herrera, Juan Carlos Bencomo and Leandro Gil.

Orlando Cala Martínez, national commissioner of that sport, told the Cuban News Agency that this contest will be the penultimate opportunity to add points for the world ranking with a view to qualifying for the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile, to be held on October to next November 5.

He added that later there would be the option of the continental tournament in Jamaica, to be held from April 26 to 29, where they hope to compete to try to accumulate the largest number of units before the closing of the qualifying process for this multi-sport event in the Chilean capital. he expressed.

Regarding the Central Caribbean fight in San Salvador, scheduled from June 23 to July 8, he said that the Caribbean nation was awarded two tickets, one for women and the other for men, for the points added up to December of last year. hence there are no options for more quotas, he said.

The Giraldilla de La Habana will give 1,700 units for the list of the world to the winners in each of its five modalities, namely individual women and men, doubles for both sexes, as well as mixed pairs.

Regarding the foreign presence, the attendance of more than 30 badminton players representing Canada, Croatia, England, Israel, Peru, Jamaica, Guatemala, Ecuador, the United States, Indonesia and Bulgaria is expected.
