Who will win the battle? Between Javier Tebas and Joan Laporta, war is declared for several months and all shots are allowed. This Thursday, the president of La Liga took advantage of his presence on Radioestadio to indicate that Barça could not recruit new players in the coming months: “As of today, Barcelona don’t have any wiggle room in their budget for the upcoming transfer market. Barcelona have been involved in questionable behavior which has impacted La Liga and we are acting on it. We decided they couldn’t sign any more players.»

By selling their television rights for 700 million euros last season, the Catalan management were able to spend large sums on the last summer transfer window. But this year, the sale of television rights cannot be renewed and Barça will therefore have to find a solution to respect the strict economic control in force in La Liga.

An obligation to sell players?

According to Javier Tebas, the solution is all found: sell players. “In Barcelona’s case, they have to drop from €650m to €450m for salaries and transfers, so it’s a minus €200m budget. They need to reduce their investment in players and we encouraged them to sell players because for every amount they raise in sales they can spend 40%” did he declare.

Joan Laporta therefore knows what remains to be done; unless he finds other solutions. Does he have the possibility of raising new economic levers at hand or does he intend to rely on the possible return of the Superleague ? This is one of the files to follow in the coming months.
