The Ecuadorian Olympic Committee (COE) claimed a budget cut for the federations in 2023, while the Ministry of Sport denies that there will be a decrease in the assigned values. The COE and the federations presented a claim to the Ministry of Sports for an alleged budget cut for 2023. “This is an administrative claim, but we are very close to it becoming a fight, and I am not afraid to fight. We will be standing so that the money that corresponds to us is not taken from us,” emphasized Jorge Delgado Panchana, president of the COE, at a press conference on Monday, March 6.
According to the COE, the racquetball, underwater sports, bowling, fencing, badminton, basketball and karate federations will have a 20% reduction compared to the budget they received the previous year. On the other hand, gymnastics, taekwondo and bodybuilding will have a 15% cut, cycling 10%, table tennis 11%, squash 12%, triathlon 13% and softball would be the most affected with a decrease of 27%. Delgado added that there will also be a 7% cut for the Olympic Committee, which would affect its efforts and administrative expenses. “We have a high goal for our athletes in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and we must organize the Bolivarian Games in 2025, but with these cuts it will not be possible to meet it,” said the president of the COE. / Scoops ec
