Ice hockey: Capitals get up late in Innsbruck

The Vienna Capitals played the most remarkable third of the game day in Innsbruck. By the 49th minute, the Viennese were 2:4 behind in third place, but then four Caps hits followed within 10:06 minutes.

Maxwell Zimmer was mainly responsible for the success with three goals, including the equalizer to make it 4:4 (57th). Then Matt Bradley (58′) and Radek Prokes scored into the empty goal (59′). “This is a group of players who believe they can win games and win series to the last second,” said Caps coach Dave Barr.

False start of the VSV

VSV’s false start in the play-offs began on their own ice in the eighth minute. Simeon Schwinger served Lucas Lessio, and he completed the empty goal. VSV goalie Jean Philippe Lamoureux made an unfortunate impression in the local rival’s second goal in the 13th minute. Rok Ticar didn’t necessarily complete a power play attack by the visitors, but caught the experienced goalkeeper on the wrong foot and Lamoureux slammed the puck into the goal himself.

The final decision initiated a game misconduct penalty against Andrew Desjardins for a check to the head. After just 29 seconds outnumbered, the Villachers conceded the third goal through Lukas Haudum.

Nicholas Eric Petersen scored the final point in the final minute into an empty goal. Haudum soberly commented on the clear success, the clearest derby success this season so far: “We played what we set out to do. That worked out very well.”

Tension in Salzburg

Salzburg didn’t have it quite as easy as they had hoped. Lucas Thaler opened the scoring (13′), after the interim equalizer (27′), Peter Schneider (32′) and Chay Genoway (42′) ensured what appeared to be a preliminary decision. Anze Kuralt made sure that the final minutes were exciting with another goal (50th).

In South Tyrol Cole Hults decided the game almost single-handedly, he scored in the 14th and 39th minute. The second games of the “best of seven” duels are played with swapped home rights.
