Individual badminton is played in Medina del Campo

Medina del Campo and Tordesillas alternate as the venue for the badminton competition within the School Games of the Valladolid Provincial Council. On November 13, the first conference was held at the Tordesillas municipal sports center. Later, the witness was picked up by Medina del Campo, with the celebration of the following two days on December 11 and January 15. The fourth date returned to Tordesillas on February 26 in the doubles modality, and yesterday, Sunday, Medina del Campo brought the participants back together for the individual competition. Only the sixth day remains, on April 16 again in Tordesillas, with the doubles, and the last farewell on May 21 in Medina del Campo with the individual finals.

Organized by the Provincial Council of Valladolid within the School Games together with CD Badminton Geria, the categories range from prebenjamín to cadet, with minibadminton being played in prebenjamín and benjamín. Depending on the number of participants, by category and modality, a league system is designed, all against all, direct elimination or a mixed system, league and direct elimination.

Of the 180 registered participants, a hundred gathered at the Pablo Cáceres pavilion in Medina del Campo, playing a total of 147 matches from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Players from Serrada, Tudela de Duero, Geria, Tordesillas, Rueda, Aldeamayor de San Martín, La Pedraja de Portillo, Quintanilla de Onésimo and Medina del Campo which, year after year, show that the level is getting better and better.

Geria dominates in prebenjamín, with Sara Olmedo. The Geriana won the event in Medina and has taken the lead with 265 points ahead of the previous leader, her teammate Jorge González, with Mario Moyano, from Rueda, being third.

In benjamin, Zoe Calvo, with her new victory, treasures the full dominance of Aldeamayor with 435 points, followed by her teammates Mateo Alvarez and Alonso del Rio. Finalist Antonio Castrillejo, also from Aldeamayor, is fourth. And something similar happens with the fry category where the win went to Aldeamayor with Daniela Vinagrero over local Naevia Estévez. Daniela is

leader and followed by his clubmate Alba García and Julia Carrión, from Tudela. With an increasingly strong and consistent school, Aldeamayor is becoming a serious alternative to final triumphs.

Hugo Álvarez from Medina continues to lead the male juvenile classification, although another Hugo, in this case Cardoso, from Aldeamayor, was the winner of Sunday’s event in a final against Samuel Blanco (Tordesillas), who is in second place of the general. Third is Jacobo Calleja, from Aldeamayor.

In the female children’s category, the victory of the second classified Candela Sánchez (Geria) over the leader Inés P. Vaquero (Medina del Campo) means that both are equal in first place with 230 points. In third position is Paula Barrocal, also from Medina del Campo.

The male children’s category continues to be dominated by Rodrigo Gay (Serrada) despite the fact that he fell in the semifinals with the eventual winner, Iván Frutos (Medina del Campo), who is in second place overall. Third is Rodrigo Cantalapiedra (Serrada) and approaching the finalist this Sunday, his partner Tomás Vidal.

Sheila Díez (Medina del Campo) commands the female cadet category with great authority, more than a hundred points behind Cristina Olmedo (Geria) and her partner Sara Sánchez. Finally, in the male cadet, the triumph of Darío Hervada (Tordesillas) causes the classification to condense with Miguel Ángel Niño (Serrada) and Marcos Rodríguez, who fell in the quarterfinals, leaders with 180 points with only 40 points difference over Darío Hervada, third, and 50 over Guillermo Moreda from Medina, who gives up a place and is now fourth.
