Olegs Kartuzovs from Riga and last year’s champion Daniels Kogans made it to the men’s final. This time the intrigue failed, as Kartuzov was able to win in four sets – 4:0. Kartuzov has already beaten Kogan in 12 games in a row. Artūrs Reinholds and Denis Vasiļjevs, who lost in the semi-final, each earned a bronze medal (the losers of the semi-final do not compete in the small final for third place, but both receive bronze medals – author’s note).
For the ladies, Baiba Bogdanova and Sabina Musayeva made it to the final after defeating several opponents. Thus, the final was exactly the same as last year, but with a different outcome. If last year Musaeva won a very similar fight with 4:3, then this year Bogdanova was able to take revenge, winning the final with 4-1 and winning already the seventh Latvian championship title. Bronze awards were given to Ina Jozepsone and Margarita Smirnova. One of the semi-finals was interesting and similar, where the general secretary of the Latvian Table Tennis Federation, Baiba Bogdanova, beat President Jozepsoni in an equal battle between two titled players.
In the men’s doubles, last year’s champions from Salaspils, brothers Artūrs and Dainis Reinholdi, lost to Oleg Kartuzov/Aleksanders Maskalyonokas. As a result, Artūrs Reinhold, who was just a little short of becoming the absolute champion last year, winning two golds in doubles and a silver in individual matches, this year had to settle for remaining without a victory, but with silver and bronze. Third place for Daniel Kogan/Denis Vasilijev, as well as Eduard Spagis/Ing Vanag.
In women’s doubles, last year’s champions Sabina Musayeva and Ina Jozepsone also lost in the final, where Baiba Bogdanova/Ilva Baltute were superior. In third place, Viktorija Majorova/Liāna Zeltiņa and Nellija Afanasjeva/Hete Heathere Zaħere.
In the mixed doubles, Oleg Kartuzov won the third title in this championship, who paired with two silver medalist Sabina Musaeva in the final did not leave any hope for Aleksandar Maskalyonokas and Baiba Bogdanova, who thus added silver to two golds in this championship, earning three medals like Musaeva. The third place was won by Daniel Kogan/Aleksandra Yershova and Artūrs Spalis/Viktoria Majorova. Kogan also has three medals. Thus, four table tennis players won medals in all three categories – Kartuzov, Kogan, Bogdanova and Musayeva.
