Las Tunas breaks the curse and achieves its first victory in the Superior Basketball League

Las Tunas.- With a choral performance in defense and sustained pressure for 40 minutes, the Las Tunas quintet finally managed to break the streak of 13 defeats, after beating Sancti Spíritus 62-56 at the end of the seventh day of the League Higher Basketball.

After several games in which they were flirting with victory, especially in their duels against the Lobos de Villa Clara and the Toros de Artemisa, Francisco Guerrero’s team finally managed to achieve the long-awaited outcome.

In their two appearances against the Artemisa team on the field of the Leonardo MacKenzie Grant sports center, Las Tunas had yielded by just one point with scores of 85-84 and 74-73, in this last game with a painful basket at the last second.

Despite the very negative balance of victories and defeats, the people from Las Tunas had deserved better luck on more than one occasion, eight years after their first and only participation in the Superior League.

With the closing of the first round of the contest, the competition foresees the celebration of the 2023 All-Star Game on days 14 and 15, based in the Giraldo Córdova Cardín room, in Ciego de Ávila.

For Las Tunas, forward Fernando Chapman will be present, after a good first half of the season in which more than once he carried the weight of his team’s attack.
