MEN’S EPEPE WORLD CUP – VALERIO CUOMO CLOSES THE PODIUM-BIS AND FINISHES SIXTH IN BUENOS AIRES

BUENOS AIRES – Sixth place that smacks of confirmation at the top for Valerio Cuomo, who saw his race stop one step away from the podium in the men’s epee World Cup event in Buenos Aires.

The Campanian, fresh from the bronze medal in the Budapest Grand Prix and starting from the qualifying days in Argentina, started his main draw in the round of 64 by defeating the Chinese Yu with a score of 15-10. In the round of 32 he then got the better of the French Gally 15-11. The Neapolitan athlete of the Fiamme Oro, in the 16-man draw, after a very balanced match overcame the Czech Jurka thanks 15-14 in the final. Cuomo was then overtaken by Frenchman Bardenet 15-9 in the fight for the podium, but still finished with his second best-eight finish in two weeks.

Gabriele Cimini’s performance is one step away from the top 8. The winner of the last GP race in Magyar land finished 11th, overtaken 12-6 in the second round by the Hungarian Nagy. Also for the Army from Pisa a confirmation at excellent levels after the triumph in Budapest.

Thus the other blues who had reached the main scoreboard from 64: 24th Filippo Armaleo, 40th Marco Balzano and 45th Davide Di Veroli.

Tomorrow is the last of the three days in Buenos Aires with the team competition with Italy head coach Dario Chiadò represented by the quartet made up of Gabriele Cimini, Federico Vismara, Davide Di Veroli and Valerio Cuomo.
