PEC Zwolle wrote history on Friday by winning 13-0 against FC Den Bosch in the Kitchen Champion Division. It is the biggest win ever on the second level in the Netherlands and equals the biggest win ever in professional football. In 2020, Ajax won 0-13 in the Eredivisie at VVV-Venlo.
Scoreverloop PEC-FC Den Bosch (13-0)
2. Vellios 1-0, 4. Vellios 2-0, 12. Vellios 3-0, 14. Medunjanin 4-0, 20. Taha 5-0, 27. Vellios 6-0, 31. Van den Belt 7-0, 46. Thy 8-0, 59. Beelen 9-0, 62. Thy 10-0, 74. Thy 11-0, 89. Van den Belt 12-0, 90+1. Davy van den Berg 13-0.
The record in the Eerste Divisie was held by Sparta Rotterdam, which won 12-1 against Almere City in August 2010. That record is now off the books because of PEC.
Halfway through, leader PEC already led 7-0 in the MAC3PARK Stadium. That was the biggest lead at halftime since Heracles Almelo led 0-7 halfway against HFC Haarlem in August 2002. It was also the final score of that game. With Ajax’s record victory at VVV, it was 0-4 after 45 minutes.
PEC already hurt FC Den Bosch much faster. After 31 minutes it was already 0-7, mainly thanks to Apostolos Vellios. The Greek already had a hat-trick to his name after twelve minutes and in the 27th minute he scored his fourth goal. The other goals before the break came from Haris Medunjanin (4-0 in the fourteenth minute), Younes Taha (5-0 in the twentieth minute) and Thomas van den Belt (7-0 in the 31st minute).
PEC Zwolle scores twice in the last minutes
In the second half, PEC continued to score against the staggeringly weak Den Bosch, which is eighteenth. Lennart Thy was the second player to record a hat-trick. The German came on halfway and made it 8-0 within a minute. He was also responsible for the 10-0 (62nd minute) and the 11-0 (74th minute). In between, Thomas Beelen signed for the 9-0 after an hour.
FC Den Bosch then seemed to prevent it from becoming a record victory, but in the final phase the team of coach Jack de Gier was further humiliated. Van de Belt made the 12-0 in the 89th minute, after which Davy van den Berg took care of the historic 13-0 in extra time.
The bizarre victory keeps PEC on course for the title in the Kitchen Champion Division. The people of Zwolle have six points more than Heracles Almelo, which will visit ADO Den Haag on Monday.
