St. Pauli’s winning streak also continues in Paderborn

FC St. Pauli also won their sixth game of the year. The Hamburgers won against the previously unbeaten Paderborners five times and could even intervene in the promotion race in their constitution. Followers Kaiserslautern experienced a setback.
Zat the end of the first half of the season, some feared relegation to the third division at the end of the season. Three months later, the first fans are already dreaming of returning to the Bundesliga. FC St. Pauli continued its winning streak in the second division and dealt SC Paderborn a serious setback in the promotion race.
The Kiez-Kicker won their sixth game in 2023 under coach Fabian Hürzeler on Friday evening with a double strike from Lukas Daschner (15th/42nd) and celebrated a 2-1 (2-0) win against fourth in the table. As a result, Ostwestfalen, who had not been defeated in five games in a row, only managed to score through an own goal by Karol Mets (51st) to reduce the gap to third place. The Hamburgers, who have now been undefeated in eight games, consolidated seventh place with 35 points.
15,000 visitors in the sold-out Home Deluxe Arena saw a balanced game in which the hosts lacked the proven offensive momentum. Coach Lukas Kwasniok had to replace the top three scorers and captain Ron Schallenberg in Robert Leipertz, Marvin Pieringer and Felix Platte. With a compact defense, the efficient guests held up well and made it 2-0 before the break thanks to Daschner’s two goals. With the help of the Mets, the hosts, who had been unlucky to hit the bar by Bashir Humphreys, only managed to get back the goal. Paderborn’s offensive player Sirlord Conteh saw the yellow-red card against his former club in the final phase.
Magdeburg gets air
1. FC Magdeburg has ended its home curse with a win in the promoted duel. The Elbe city-dwellers won 2-0 (1-0) against 1. FC Kaiserslautern in front of 24,528 spectators and clinched their first home win since the tenth matchday. Moritz Kwarteng (41st minute) put FCM in front with his eighth goal of the season, substitute Tatsuya Ito (65th) marked the final score. With the first home win since October 2022, Magdeburg improved to eleventh place in the table and is now seven points ahead of the relegation place. For Kaiserslautern it was the third away defeat in a row.
Christian Titz had to do without Daniel Elfadli, who was suffering from the flu, and put Silas Gnaka in midfield instead. The guests tried to deprive Magdeburg of space, but FCM found gaps: two shots by Mohammed El Hankouri (11th, 12th) steered Andreas Luthe in the FCK goal to a corner. Goalscorer Terrence Boyd (17′) scored on the other side, but was previously offside. The guests now interspersed ball possession phases, but goal danger did not arise for a long time. Then Jason Ceka put through to Kwarteng (41st), which was worth seeing, and put FCM in the lead.
After the change of sides, the guests closed the wings, Magdeburg didn’t really come into play. The game needed some time to get going again, Boyd’s shot (57th) was too misplaced. At the other end, Luthe saved against FCM captain Amara Condé (59′) before substitute Ito (65′) raised after a strong heel-heel from Baris Atik.
