Selection takes tests in Guimarães before heading to the Women’s Football World Cup

A Portuguese women’s football team visits the birthplace in April to face Japan and Wales, the first preparation games for the 2023 World Cup.

The D. Afonso Henriques Stadium will be the stage for the first preparation games of the Portuguese team for the World Cup. The Portuguese Football Federation announced the friendlies against the Japanese on April 7 and the Welsh on April 11, being the first time that the female formation plays in Guimarães.

The Portuguese football team secured an unprecedented qualification for the World Cup, beating Cameroon by 2-1, in the final of Group A of the Intercontinental Play-off for qualification.

The final phase of the World Cup will take place from July 20th to August 20th, in Australia and New Zealand. The women’s team, led by Francisco Neto, will be part of Group E, along with the Netherlands, Vietnam and the United States of America.
