The Latvian Football Federation (LFF) is organizing an international conference “Women in Sport” with the aim of strengthening the role of women in sports, discussing the possibilities of women’s sports and increasing the involvement of local governments in the development of women’s sports, which will take place on April 13 at Riga Technical University, Ķīpsalas Street 6A, Riga.
Participation in the conference is free. Registration is possible on the website www.mumsirsparni.lff.lv/konference. The number of places is limited.
The topics discussed at the conference and the international experience presented in it will make it possible to understand what challenges a woman faces in sports and how such professional activity correlates with various psychological and practical factors. The issues of leadership in sports and the opportunities of modern women to develop a versatile career in sports both on and off the field will also be discussed. The panel discussion will look at the experiences of other federations in changing public stereotypes about women in professional sports and attracting more women to sports, as well as the interaction of women’s sports image and business interests.
The conference format includes presentations and panel discussions in which professional athletes from various sports, female athletes in leading positions, female athletes – mothers, psychologists and international experts will participate. Among them former footballer and current secretary general of the French Football Federation Laura Georges, UEFA technical expert, former head coach of the Scottish and Finnish football teams Anna Signeul from Sweden and UEFA’s senior women’s football development specialist with more than ten years of experience Emma Sykes from Great Britain in European football.
Also, among the participants and speakers of the conference will be associate professor and researcher of the University of Latvia Marita Zitmane, former soccer player of the German national team and UEFA ambassador Josephine Henning, former hockey player of the Latvian national team Laila Dekmeijere-Trigubova, board member of the Latvian Volleyball Federation Aleksandra Misirova, Latvian Handball Federation general secretary Līga Bīriņa, director of the Latvian Women’s Basketball League Līga Goldmane, former Latvian national basketball player Anete Jēkabsone-Žogota and others.
The conference will last from 10.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m., when a press conference dedicated to the new Women’s Football League season is scheduled there.
Officials of sports federations, sports policy institutions and sports management organizations, female athletes and representatives of various sports clubs, business organizations are specially invited to participate in the conference.
The conference is organized with the support of the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia.
