World Baseball Classic: Edwin Diaz injured himself at the winner’s party – a ruptured patella tendon means the end of the season

The 28-year-old has already had surgery.

The Puerto Ricans jumped up and down the field in a cheering cluster after reaching the quarterfinals of the tournament, and Diaz got it.

First the player was supported by two attendants, then placed in a wheelchair.

His brother Alexis (Cincinnati Reds), who also plays for the national team, was in tears.

“A hard hit. There’s no doubt about it,” said Justin Verlander, Diaz’s teammate at the Mets. “Losing him isn’t easy.”
