Boucherville: a completely “judo” town

The Boucherville Judo Club hosted two competitions on April 15 and 16: the International Challenge and the Montérégie Zone Cup. About 180 judokas aged 14 to 30 competed on the tatami of the Marcel-Bourelly dojo. The athletes of the host club particularly shone.
Saturday was devoted to the 24th edition of the International Challenge under the honorary presidency of Olympic medalist Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard. This is a team tournament. Fourteen teams from Montreal, Saint-Hilaire, the borough of Saint-Hubert, Boucherville and even Guadeloupe fought well.
A delegation of fifteen young people from the town of Les Abymes, in Guadeloupe, twinned with Boucherville, was indeed present. The day before the competitions, the Guadeloupe athletes were received at the town hall of Boucherville to, among other things, sign the guest book.
The Challenge Cup, which rewards the club whose teams have obtained the most victories, was awarded to the Club de Judo Boucherville, ahead of the Shidokan club. Tied for 3rd place were the Abymes club and the Olympic judo club. Among the representatives of the Boucherville club, Catherine Toshkov (senior category) from Sainte-Julie and Tristan Bourque (U18) from Boucherville won the title of best fighter in their category.
On Sunday, the Montérégie Zone Cup was held, which brought together more than 120 young people from the U14 and U16 categories and at least as many parents who came to encourage them.
About fifty volunteers got involved during these two days of action to make these sporting events a success. The next edition will take place in the spring of 2024.
