Eagles, Cardinals reach unusual 2023 NFL Draft night agreement

Strange things can happen on NFL Draft night. Whether it’s surprise selections or big trades, there never seems to be a shortage of drama during one of the NFL‘s most anticipated events.

The Arizona Cardinals and Philadelphia Eagles used their draft night opportunity to reach a settlement regarding former Eagles coach Jonathan Gannonwho left the franchise to join Arizona as its head coach in February.

Tampering allegations

The Eagles and Cardinals agreed to swap third-round picks in this year’s draft after Arizona general manager Ossenfort Mountains contacted Gannon — Philadelphia‘s former defensive coordinator — outside of the NFL’s permitted contact window.

Philadelphia, the reigning NFC champions, also shipped its fifth-round pick in 2024 to Arizona.
