The Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo debuted this Monday with a creditable victory over the British Cameron Norrieseeded eleventh, in the first round of the Monte Carlo Masters 1000, played on clay courts.
The man from Buenos Aires, number 33 in the world, won 6-3, 6-4 and tied the record that favored the European player for his victory in the round of 16 of the ATP in Lyon 2022.

Cerúndolo, 24, who is making his first appearance in the Masters of the Principality, will play in the next instance with the Italian Matteo Berrettini who beat the American Maxime Cressy 6-4, 6-2.
For his part, the first Argentine racket, Sebastián Báez (32nd), was eliminated against the British Jack Draper (61st) in two sets: 6-3 and 7-5.

Báez repeated last year’s performance in the Monegasque tournament when he was fired in the first round by the Spanish Pablo Carreño Busta, after entering the main draw from the previous classification.
The other Argentine participant in the 2023 edition is Diego Schwartzman (36th), who played next with the Belgian David Goffin (45th).
