Andries Noppert may not be able to play for sc Heerenveen for the rest of the season. The goalkeeper of Orange at the World Cup in Qatar will soon undergo groin surgery, the Frisian club reports on Friday.
The 29-year-old Noppert has been injured since the end of January. The keeper hoped to be able to recover without surgery, but now an intervention appears to be necessary.
According to Heerenveen, it is unclear whether Noppert can still take action this season. Xavier Mous has been the first goalkeeper in the team of coach Kees van Wonderen since the five-time Orange international was absent.
Due to the injury, national coach Ronald Koeman was unable to select Noppert for the Orange’s first two European Championship qualifiers against France (4-0 loss) and Gibraltar (3-0 win).
Heerenveen currently occupies ninth place in the Eredivisie. The Frisians will play against FC Volendam in their own Abe Lenstra Stadium on Saturday.
